LONELY BEACHES...............

Here's a shot of the beach at the resort where we stay in Punta Cana, Domincan Republic (PUJ). I don't know how these places stay in business. I've been there three times and don't think I've seen more than 20 people there at any time. It's absolutely gorgeous.........and QUIET. Nice for a peaceful and relaxing break though. So, if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place to go, check out the Punta Cana Hotel and Resort.

SHOT FROM FT LAUDERDALE

Here's a nice shot of a rainbow that I took after departing out of Ft Lauderdale (FLL). Sometimes you just KNOW there's a GOD when you see sights like this. In spite of all the hassles with security, ATC delays, and commuting, seeing things like this make it worthwhile. A lot of the guys I fly with wonder how I know when a shot like this will pop up, but I've become accustomed to knowing when these terrific photo opportunities will present themselves. I flew with a guy a couple of years ago that had been flying back and forth from Puerto Rico for years and had never seen a rainbow while flying. On our trip I must have showed him 20 or so. He was floored! I guess knowing where and when to look helps. LOL Hope you enjoy the shot.

SUNSET BEACH BAR AND GRILL CLOSED IN ST MAARTEN......SAD END TO THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF SXM

Well, I finally got back to paradise, St Maarten, and was SHOCKED to see that the world famous

Sunset Beach Bar and Grill had closed its doors and was being TORN DOWN. Not much information, other than it was really sad to see this wonderful landmark disappearing. Don't know what is going to replace it, but whatever ends up going up there is going to have some big shoes to fill. Other than that, I had a great time being in SXM, and in my "element" again. I'll have more photos of my visit in future postings. Check back soon and often. I'm only home for a day and head back to Newark with a quick trip to Bermuda tomorrow, then home for four glorious days.

OFF TO ST MAARTEN TOMORROW

Well, I made the horrible commute from Ft. Lauderdale, to Newark, NJ today. Hard to believe it's getting to be a "normal" commute time of around seven hours or so for a 2:25 minute flight with the continuous air traffic delays to the northeast . Seems the air traffic control system really could care less how much money and business their imposed delays are costing us. Sad thing is though, is that it's costing a lot of our employees their jobs since we're losing so much money due to these delays. Hopefully, when we get a new administration in power, they'll fix all the damage that's been done to our dilapidated ATC system so we can fly EFFICIENTLY and ON TIME. Gee, now there's a real bright idea......updating our 1960's air traffic control system (along with restoring the controllers pay and benefits that were cut a couple of years ago). I just hope all the damage that's been done can be fixed in the not too distant future. Oh well, off to SXM tomorrow to get some REAL rest and relaxation!

SAVE THOSE PHOTOS THE RIGHT WAY

After I started printing my photos, I noticed a decrease in the quality of photos the more I printed/downloaded them. It got to the point where they were getting fuzzier and fuzzier and no amount of sharpening helped. That's when I found out that any photo you want to keep in high quality, must be saved as a "tiff" or tagged information file folder. (If you don't do this, every time to download the photo or view it, it will lose a bit of it's image quality.) In essence, it takes a photo, puts a "fence" around it, and doesn't allow any of the photo to escape during a download. It also uses a lot of memory since it will take a photo and double or triple the amount of memory used in the original JPEG (if that's what you downloaded it as). So the next time you "adjust" your photo, save it as a "tiff", and you'll have that "original" photo for a long time with NO loss of image quality.

HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU!!!!

Here's a shot I took of a small owl (approximately six inches tall) in an open air picnic shed. He just looked at me like he wanted his photo taken, and I obliged him. Cute fella, eh?

WHY I LIKE ST MAARTEN

Here's a nice shot I took in St Maarten (SXM) a couple of months ago. Unfortunately this catamaran was too far off for me to get a nice crisp shot, but this will do in a pinch. It always amazes me at the number of beautiful sunsets I see in SXM. Sure makes for some great photos too.

BERMUDA.......WHAT A GORGEOUS PLACE

I have to tell you, Bermuda is one of the most gorgeous places to fly into. It's just amazing how clean and immaculate everything is there. Of course, you'll certainly pay through the nose to go there too. I think pancakes run around $30 for breakfast. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....maybe if I hit the lottery one day. Here's a shot of some of the reefs around the island.

I LIKE THIS SHOT.........

Sometimes I take photos that I think are pretty nice, but get "ho-hum" reactions to them from others. I've attached a photo of a nesting dove that I took a year or so ago. Personally I'm surprised at how well it turned out. What do you think? This dove was up in a tree about 20 feet or so away from me. I've also attached a shot of my girlfriends son playing tennis. He has a big tournament this weekend, and I'm sure he'll do well. Jimmy is one of the top ranked tennis players in the country in his age group. He won his first "16 year old tournament" when he was only 10!!!! This is one incredible player. Mark my words, this guy is going to be #1 in the world in a few years.........yes, he IS that good!

HACKED OFF..............

Well, my site was hacked by some jerk(s) who decided my site was the best way to get to THEIR site. Apparently this doesn't happen often, but often enough. Luckily the perpetrators were shut down, but it'll take a while to get my site back on the scope when googling it. Personally, I'd like to put these scammers out of business by denying them access to computers or any electronic apparatus for the rest of their sorry lives. (Too bad our justice system does nothing but PRAISE these LOSERS....) Why can't people just enjoy everyones talents and abilities, rather than try to ruin or destroy them? Sad, really sad. Check out this "treasure hunter" I photographed on the beach yesterday..............kinda funny.

WHAT A FANTASTIC VIEW!!!

One thing I have to say about my buddy Bill (the cherry guy), is that he has an INCREDIBLE view from his home in Oregon. Check out this shot from his front yard. That's Mt. HOOD (;-)) in the distance. I almost think I'd put up with the COLD freezing winters up there just to enjoy this view. Seriously though, it's one of the nicer views in the area, but I think I'll stick to the warm beaches of Florida. ;-)

HOME AGAIN......WITH 30 POUNDS of CHERRIES

Well, I finally made it back home again. It's ALWAYS nice to come home! Spent the last two days with a good friend of mine, Bill Foley, up at his parents cherry orchards in Oregon. Always nice to hang out with friends and enjoy the beautiful northwest. I've attached a couple of "cherry" shots for you. The first shot is of the bins of cherries getting ready to go to the sorting facility. The second two are of Van and Ranier cherries in the tree. The fourth shot is of Bill with some of the cherries we picked. Bill and his family pick upwards of 1000 TONS of cherries a year! Incredible! Boy, these are some gooooood cherries folks!!! Thanks for everything Bill!

STILL ON THE ROAD

Well everyone, I'm still on the road and will be for the next few days. Then I'll download a few shots of my recent travels. Yesterday as we were flying over Texas, I took a couple of photos of the oil fields. For those that think drilling more wells is the answer and they don't care how bad it looks, you just might be surprised when you see these shots. We saw the same landscape for at least a hundred miles............nothing but oil fields, with literally THOUSANDS of oil derricks. Check out the photos................... It is NOT pretty. Dig in my backyard? I hope not. :-( Heading off in the morning to go pick cherries at my friends place in the Dalles, Oregon. Should be fun.

RELAXING IN THE "OC"

Well, we made it to Orange County, California, yesterday afternoon. Went to Huntington Beach and saw a great fireworks display. I'll post some photos later (assuming they turn out of course). Just relaxing and wasting the day away today. Nice to not have any worries in the world for a day. Hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday!

HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!

Just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very safe and happy 4th of July. I'll be on the road for a few days, so I'll post something when I get a chance. Heading out to Newark today, and then on to Orange County, CA. Hopefully they'll have a nice fireworks display to enjoy tonight. Thanks to everyone who's come to visit my blog! (Back home so here's a couple of shots of the fireworks display we saw at Hungtington Beach.) Hope you like them.

SOMETHING NEAT IN ARIZONA!

One of the more interesting "sites" we fly over when going from California to Newark, is located just west of Winslow, Arizona. It's call the "Barringer Meteor Crater" and is an awesome sight from above. I took this aerial photo from around 35,000 feet a couple of weeks ago and thought you might like it. This crater is about a mile across and approximately 500 feet deep. Supposedly, (not sure if it's true or not) a flight attendant, when shown the crater, noticed the road next to it and said, "wow, it almost hit that road next to it!" This crater was created over 50,000years ago. Did they have roads back then? More importantly though, is did they have Mercedes Benz's back then??? Hmmmmmmm.................... Here's a link to some interesting facts/background about this meteor crater:

And while you're at it, check out my other photos.

THANKS

BERMUDA.........TALK ABOUT BEAUTIFUL!!!

Yesterday we flew a "turn" to BDA, (Newark to Bermuda to Newark). I love flying into Bermuda because it's such a sparkling clean island. The white roofs, the gorgeous blue green water, pristine beaches, and friendly people. One day when I have some extra money handy, I'll probably try to go there for a day...... or two. Yep, it's that expensive! ;-) But it seems like everyone who goes there just loves it. Just another place to add to my "wanna visit for more than an hour" destinations. Here's a shot I took after we took off from the island.
